On March 30th at 7pm server time, Genome Project had an OOC meeting to discuss what problems the guild was facing and what we could do to solve them and help the guild.
For those who missed the meeting, want to review it, and/or give your input/ideas/concerns, I'll be posting the notes of the meeting.
I highly encourage EVERYONE to post their thoughts about the meeting. So for those who missed it AND where also present. Please reply to this thread with any comments, concerns, or ideas.
Thank you.
Below is the log of the OOC meeting:
*Issues will be highlighted in Red/Orange
*Ideas will be highlighted in Blue
*Plans will be highlighted in Purple
(Sorry if I didn't highlight something or highlighted the wrong thing. I am very tired.)
[90:Ninwyn]: Waiting another minute for Kinria.
[90:Plazlespez]: k
[90:Ninwyn]: Alright
[90:Ninwyn]: Again
[90:Ninwyn]: First, please keep all chat unrelated to this meeting out of this channel.
[90:Ninwyn]: Use guild chat or Gnochat for that.
[90:Ninwyn]: Alright, on to business.
[90:Ninwyn]: Everyone knows this, but putting it out there, since this is what the meeting is about - The guild isn't doing well. Most of the members are becoming inactive.
[90:Ninwyn]: People don't even show up to most events.
[90:Plazlespez]: When I dont show up, its because I dont have the time right. I always want to get to it, but I can never get on at the right time. Thats more my fault than the guilds.
[90:Ninwyn]: I'm guilty for being one that hasn't been on much. Part of it has been out of my control, like having my laptop die and unable to get on someone elses comp much. However, I've also avoided getting on for several reasons.
[90:Ninwyn]: Which would be that I have basically led this guild alone since it was made back in June of last year. It is extremely stressful and overwhelming to do so. Yes, this is a "game" but for those who have not done it, leading a guild is a full time "job."
[90:Ninwyn]: I've had a lot of things in my life that have made my stress and depression worse, which make it harder to deal with the stress of leading a guild and other stressful parts of the game.
[90:Ninwyn]: I sometimes end up "hiding" on my goblin alt because I don't want to be overwhelmed on Ninwyn.
[90:Plazlespez]: race traitor.
[90:Ninwyn]: Because when I'm on her, I'm usually crushed by both IC and OOC questions, drama, events, leadership, and so on.
[90:Ninwyn]: Now, I'm not giving up on Ninwyn, or the guild. Ninwyn is still my main. And I still care about the guild.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: I'll help on the weekends.
[90:Ninwyn]: However, I can -not- lead Genome alone.
[90:Ninwyn]: Like I said before, leading Genome, or even helping with it, is a full time/part time job.
[90:Ninwyn]: I've had plenty of people offer in the past to "help" with the guild.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: That's why I wish to be one of many.
[90:Plazlespez]: My problem is that whenever I want to RP, its either too early or too late
[90:Ninwyn]: Whether it be making events, or being officers, or any other help.
[90:Ninwyn]: Quiet plese.
[90:Ninwyn]: But.[20:30:12] [6] [90:Ninwyn]: They end up not doing as they had promised.
[90:Ninwyn]: I understand real life takes a lot of time from playing the game. RL always comes first.
[90:Ninwyn]: But if you're on a lot already, and you've avoiding help, then that's a problem.
[90:Ninwyn]: So, to sum it up: Genome is becoming inactive, I haven't been around which is partially my own fault, we need more people/officers helping and -staying- with it.[/u]
[90:Ninwyn]: And probably a few other issues too.
[90:Ninwyn]: Now, before we go on, I want to ask what problems -you- see or have about Genome. Just the problems. Not what can be fixed yet.
[90:Ninwyn]: I want the issues addressed first.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: If there is no RP, there is not much to do.
[90:Plazlespez]: I personally think 7:00 is a rather weird time to have events.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: No one wants to PvE, or PvP.
[90:Linwish]: left channel.
[Iaruka]: The main issue I see is when I make an event only one or two people ever show up.
[90:Ninwyn]: Ok... about those issues.
[90:Plazlespez]: Especially when everyone's schedules are so off anyway that when some want to RP, nobody wants to do it at that time.
[60:Phink]: Yea, really the only issue i have seen with the guild is its inactivity
[90:Ninwyn]: Bingo to Phink.
[90:Ninwyn]: Fizzle and Gidget, your problems link directly to inactivity.
[90:Plazlespez]: Honestly, no, its that, in a way, the guild doesnt encourage activity.
[90:Ninwyn]: It's not about encouraging,.
[90:Sybill]: Recruitment isn't too easy. Most people dont think of gnomes as a main rp character.
[90:Ninwyn]: It's part of it, but not all.
[60:Phink]: if we had mre active memebrs, more people would be on ant odd times and regular times and rp would grow naturally
[90:Plazlespez]: if activity isnt encouraged, it wont happen.
[90:Ninwyn]: That too, Sybil..
[90:Ninwyn]: Plaz, Sybill had a point.
[90:Ninwyn]: And it's been like that for as long as I can remember.
[90:Plazlespez]: I know. I wasnt saying she didnt.
[90:Ninwyn]: Alright, quiet again please for a few moments.
[90:Plazlespez]: Listen, the way people run their characters, as opposed- fine.
[90:Ninwyn]: I'm not getting into a debate as to the exact reason. We have some issues that are obvious and need to try and be taken care of somehow.
[90:Ninwyn]: First though I need to ask.
[90:Ninwyn]: Should Genome be kept going? Or should we stop it?
[90:Plazlespez]: -screams into hands-
[60:Phink]: kept going for sure
[Iaruka]: There's a much deeper question to be answered in that.
[90:Plazlespez]: Why would we even consider stopping it?
[70:Fizzlecracks]: I'm staying, no matter what.
[60:Phink]: it is a very well put together guild. with a good core.
[90:Ninwyn]: Why would -you- consider? I dunno. But there are plenty of reasons why I would.
[90:Plazlespez]: Look, a big problem is that we encourage serious gnomish characters, but a lot of the guild regulars are not fully serious gnome characters.
[90:Ninwyn]: Honestly, I've thought of disbanding the guild several times.
[90:Plazlespez]: We dont want gnomes seen as the comic relief race, right? Then why do a lot of our characters have 'lol funny quirks'?
[90:Ninwyn]: I'm not sure how kicking out active members who aren't entirely serious would solve anything.
[Iaruka]: There is a difference between commic relief and quirky
[90:Ninwyn]: ^
[87:Lihta]: And both should be okay, anyways
[60:Phink]: plaz, i dont mean to be rude but how does anything your saying have anything to do with that were talking about?
[90:Plazlespez]: I know that. Thats why I phrased it the way I did.
[6] [90:Plazlespez]: Well, it gives us a bad image.
[6] [90:Plazlespez]: We wanbt serious gnome characters? Well, thats all fine and good, but we have TONS of non serious characters
[6] [90:Plazlespez]: want*
[6] [90:Plazlespez]: its totally inconsistent. Because of that, most people are averse to rp'ing with that brand.
[6] [87:Lihta]: Everyone has a bad image to a lot people. WoW is like the real world, not everyone will be happy how you do you
[90:Plazlespez]: Our guild brand, us. And it reinforces comic relief gnomes.
[60:Phink]: iaruka had it right whit what she said
[90:Plazlespez]: therefore, gnome alts instead of mains.
[90:Ninwyn]: ... I don't understand what you mean by your last comment.
[90:Plazlespez]: Less guildies. And because the aversion to us being RP'd with exists, we are discouraged from random RPs, whether we want to admit it or not
[90:Plazlespez]: what do you not understand about it? Ill reword it [90:Ninwyn]: Plaz.
[90:Ninwyn]: Becareful how your "type tone" is.
[90:Jackflap]: I never got discouraged from RP except from one group, really.
[90:Plazlespez]: I didnt mean anything by that post.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: Ditto to Flapjack.
[90:Plazlespez]: But basically, because of that discouragement, we 'find less time' for the game, again, even if we dont realize we do it.
[60:Phink]: the kind of rp we do on our own time is really not what were here to discuss
[90:Plazlespez]: Then that might coincide with an event
[90:Plazlespez]: But its connected to it.
[90:Jackflap]: Thats seems a bit too psychological. which could be true, but I mean... guilds often go inactive at periods.
[90:Plazlespez]: Well, we're psychological animals, humans.
[90:Jackflap]: no matter how serious or how comic relief it is, its bound to happen. At least from my experiences
[90:Jackflap]: I do see your point, but i don't think it applies to the situation we're having.
[90:Ninwyn]: I have some problems with some characters being too immature or over-the-top in public with public RP. But that's not really the cause of inactivity.
[90:Plazlespez]: Ya, but genome is supposed to be the ' serious gnome' guild. If we dont reinforce that, it gives us a bad rep.
[90:Plazlespez]: Its not the only cause, yes, but its a contributing factor.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: ...Nin, do you mean me?
[90:Ninwyn]: It's not "super serious" it's just not for "joke Gnomes"
[90:Ninwyn]: Partially Fizzle, yes.
[90:Ninwyn]: There are others too.
[90:Plazlespez]: Theres a very thin line between comic relief and the sometimes fun/quirky characters.
[90:Sybill]: But on the plus side, I think Fiz is one of our most active members
[90:Ninwyn]: But we;'ll stop this topic for now, and go on to how we can actually -help-
[87:Lihta]: If we're still talking about the way people RP their characters, I'm done
[90:Ninwyn]: Yes, and I would never want Fizzle out of the guild.
[90:Ninwyn]: No. We're not.
[90:Ninwyn]: Which is why we're moving on to the relevant topic.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: Thanks, Nin.
[90:Ninwyn]: Inactivity.
[90:Ninwyn]: Now, I was you to say "Aye" if you have a idea or few ideas on how that can be solved. To prevent spam and people "talking" over each other, we'll go one at a time.
[90:Ninwyn]: So first, like I said about, please say "aye" if you have an idea.
[90:Plazlespez]: Aye
[70:Fizzlecracks]: Aye.
[60:Phink]: aye
[90:Jackflap]: Aye, as well. Though along with an explanation, i also have some comments.
[87:Lihta]: I'm going to do dailies on another char. I'll join this channel
[87:Lihta]: left channel.
[90:Ninwyn]: Alright, before I choose first, please only discuss IDEAS of how to change the issues of INACTIVITY.
[90:Ninwyn]: Nothing else at the moment. We will discuss other problems or comments after this.
[Gabeas]: joined channel.
[90:Ninwyn]: Alright, since Plaz replied first, you start. Again, only what we can do to fix -inactivity-.
[90:Plazlespez]: Hold events an hour later, make more of them. Maybe five a week.
[90:Ninwyn]: And I will ask anyone to stop if it gets out of hand.
[90:Plazlespez]: 8 instead of 7, basically.
[90:Plazlespez]: done
[90:Ninwyn]: Ok... Fizzle, you next.
[90:Ninwyn]: We'll discuss why or why not the ideas may be good or bad -afterwards-.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: I think that we should sometimes just get together in Stormwind, set up a banner, and talk, for publicity, to convince people to make gnomes, it's how I found you guys.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: That's my idea that involves RP.
[90:Ninwyn]: Alright, anything else?
[70:Fizzlecracks]: Me?
[90:Ninwyn]: Yes.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: Transmog runs.
[90:Ninwyn]: Ok
[90:Ninwyn]: Phink, you're next.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: Then maybe progress to casual raiding and or PvP.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: Done.
[60:Phink]: ok, my idea tekes a small amoutn of explaining so please here me out
[60:Phink]: takes*
[60:Phink]: I think the inactivy can be solved by two things 1. is the members we have being more active, not just being online more but holding more events. maybe not 5 a week or anything super demanding but maybe one or two a week.
[60:Phink]: more activity within the guild well keep the people we have here, and will intrest new recruits more, and get them involved with the guild and its members quicker
[60:Phink]: 2. is holding a small recruitment drive
[90:Ninwyn]: Alright. Anything else?
[60:Phink]: no. im done ty
[90:Ninwyn]: Alright
[90:Ninwyn]: Jack, you're up.
[90:Jackflap]: Well, due to the ideas stated, i dont think i actually have anything much to add, other then Two things. 1st, i'd like to add something else to what plaz said about time
[90:Plazlespez]: Id also like to expand upon my points a bit.
[90:Plazlespez]: after hes done
[90:Jackflap]: I agree that 7:00 pm is early, but at the same time maybe 8 won't do as well. Just a random idea, but could it be possible to perhaps hold events at different times?
[90:Jackflap]: Because it really would be difficult to set one time only and expect everyone to come
[90:Ninwyn]: Possibly. We'll discuss it further. Continue.
[90:Ninwyn]: further after*
[90:Jackflap]: Well, that's one thing. Honestly, you all gave great ideas, and they can all work. But i dont know what else can be done anymore to fix inactivity. It truly depends on the people themselves. Like, im sincerely bored of WoW, but there can be so much real
[90:Jackflap]: -issues
[Gabeas]: left channel.
[90:Jackflap]: So...yea. Eh, guess im done
[90:Plazlespez]: Alright, can I expand upon my points, then?
[90:Ninwyn]: One moment.
[90:Plazlespez]: k
[90:Ninwyn]: Did anyone else have any ideas?
[90:Ninwyn]: Gidget, Sybill, Lihta?
[Iaruka]: Not at the moment.
[90:Sybill]: nuh
[90:Ninwyn]: right...
[90:Ninwyn]: Ok, go ahead Plaz
[90:Plazlespez]: Ok, so, postponing events is a bad idea, IMO. Also, the idea of 5 events a week I had is mainly because, if you miss one, you'll have the next day to get into an event. With how it is now, with just two weekly events, we have people missing it
[90:Plazlespez]: Maybe by accident, and having to wait a whole week for another one to get some guild rp
[90:Plazlespez]: and postponing the event for the next day makes it seem like its okay to miss the event
[90:Plazlespez]: by having more events, maybe at different times of the day, people can still miss one, but they'll miss what happened in that specific event
[90:Plazlespez]: But they dont have to wait a full week for guild rp
[90:Plazlespez]: Thats about it
[90:Ninwyn]: Alright...
[90:Ninwyn]: Giving my few cents on what was discussed.
[90:Ninwyn]: First, with Plaz.
[90:Ninwyn]: Or, Plaz and Jack -
[90:Ninwyn]: I don't think setting the time back an hour would solve anything, however, that does not mean we can have events at differents times. They don't always have to be at 7pm. So we could try "staggering" the times of events.
[90:Ninwyn]: Next
[90:Ninwyn]: For now, I do not believe it'd be best to have "five" or so events a week, mostly because we're thin as it is. Maybe two or three for now would be alright. - You need people hosting events, and you need people attending them. We don't have much of either-
[90:Ninwyn]: However, we -can- make more casual "events" like get-togethers or socials that wouldn't require much effort.
[90:Ninwyn]: Next
[90:Ninwyn]: I think Fizzle has a good idea. I also wanted to talk about recruitment. And I think the best way to do that would be to just go out and let ourselves be seen and heard.
[90:Plazlespez]: left channel.
[90:Ninwyn]: We could also do events that aren't RP based, and do some old school raids like we used to.
[70:Fizzlecracks]: GENOME SWARM!
[90:Ninwyn]: And PvP for those interested.
[90:Ninwyn]: Next
[90:Ninwyn]: I agree with what you said. Being "on" a lot doesn't solve anything. But being "active" with the guild and "doing" things is far more important.
[90:Ninwyn]: So we could mix Phink and Fizzle's idea and do something with a recruitment drive.
[90:Ninwyn]: Next
[90:Tinkenborf]: joined channel.
[90:Tinkenborf]: Back
[90:Ninwyn]: Jack has a point.
[90:Tinkenborf]: what all was said?
[60:Phink]: lol
[70:Fizzlecracks]: left channel.
[90:Ninwyn]: We can't force people to be on. Gnomes are one of the least played races. Some people get tired of the lack of Gnome RP, and either switch to other chars, or race change.
[90:Ninwyn]: So if we can't get new members, we just have to be active ourselves, and maybe show that being a Gnome is worth it.
[60:Phink]: ^
[90:Ninwyn]: Alright...
[90:Ninwyn]: Next up...
[90:Ninwyn]: One moment
[90:Jackflap]: brb as well
[90:Ninwyn]: Just a heads up
[90:Ninwyn]: I will be posting screenshots and notes later on the guild forums if anyone wants to review them, missed the meeting, or wants to add anything.
[60:Phink]: neat
[90:Jackflap]: Back.
[90:Ninwyn]: An idea I had also
[90:Ninwyn]: Was maybe a reward or something... positive reinforcement, for being on a lot, attending events, or making them.
[90:Ninwyn]: Whether it be having art drawn of their character, becoming eligible to be placed in a guild lotto, or getting gold, whatever.
[60:Phink]: ^
[90:Ninwyn]: First, I think one of the important things we need to do foremost is recruitment.
[90:Ninwyn]: Whether it be passive or active.
[90:Ninwyn]: Note, I would -never- want /yelled recruitments.
[90:Ninwyn]: Ever.
[90:Ninwyn]: But, we can do as Fizzle and Phink suggested.
[90:Ninwyn]: Just being out where there are active RPers, maybe even random places where there is traffix too.
[90:Ninwyn]: Put our banner up, and RP. Interact with the other RPers around us.
[90:Ninwyn]: We could do this once or twice a week.
[90:Ninwyn]: Bam,one or two events right there.
[90:Sybill]: I think /yelled recruitments do get results and spread awareness. Playing gnomes we are put at a disadvantage for members as it is.
[90:Ninwyn]: I'd rather not do /yelled. I always get annoyed when people yell theirs. It spams up chat and doesn't seem very IC.
[90:Ninwyn]: Maybe we could -try-
[90:Ninwyn]: Like once every 30 minutes or an hour.
[90:Jackflap]: I personally think yelled emotes would work mostly with militaristic guilds.
[90:Ninwyn]: But definitely not a lot at once.
[60:Phink]: if i may interject. yes /yell is out of thequestion. but i find forum posts to be a good way to recruit. its how i found genome
[90:Tinkenborf]: I am sitting in the cathedral district right now
[90:Tinkenborf]: banner out
[90:Tinkenborf]: Not doing much.
[90:Ninwyn]: Having a banner out isn't an instant solution.
[90:Ninwyn]: You're not going to have Gnomes flocking to you because of it.
[90:Ninwyn]: Note to everyone:
[90:Ninwyn]: Getting Genome active again will NOT be quick or easy.
[90:Ninwyn]: It will take -time- and -effort-.[/u]
[60:Phink]: ^^^
[90:Ninwyn]: Just like most good things.
[90:Ninwyn]: So we need to be patient and vigilant.
[90:Ninwyn]: So... We'll talk more specifically about making a recruitment event later.
[90:Ninwyn]: With that off to the side now...
[90:Ninwyn]: I'd also like to try doing our "Socials" again. Once every week.
[90:Ninwyn]: We can invite non-Gnomes also like we used to to it.
[90:Ninwyn]: Just friendly get togethers at a tavern or something.
[90:Ninwyn]: Maybe do a lotto there.
[90:Ninwyn]: Would you guys like to do that?
[90:Ninwyn]: We could also do themed socials too.[/color]
[60:Phink]: deffinately
[90:Jackflap]: That seems legit.
[90:Jackflap]: Honestly, nothing wrong with that, and i think it would definetely help
[90:Ninwyn]: Ok
[90:Ninwyn]: Next in line
[60:Phink]: only thing is. Holding events at 8 really sucks for me. its what time i have to leave for work. 7 is perfect tho for during the week. on weekends im free anytime
[90:Ninwyn]: PvE/PvP events
[90:Ninwyn]: We'll change the times/dates for each week.
[90:Ninwyn]: Now... We could try doing a Transmog run once every week or so.
[90:Ninwyn]: Just one place to start out with, see how many people are interested.
[90:Ninwyn]: Not like we'll be able to do anything that could be difficult with low levels or few people.
[90:Ninwyn]: So just keep that in mind.
[90:Ninwyn]: PvP... That'd be a bit harder to set an event for, with so few people. But we will keep that in mind.
[90:Ninwyn]: You can always just get guild members together when you can to do that.
[90:Ninwyn]: Next
[90:Ninwyn]: We'll try to have an IC guild meeting at least once or twice a month.
[90:Ninwyn]: And impromptu IC or OOC meetings if needed.
[90:Ninwyn]: Now... on to larger scale RP events.
[90:Ninwyn]: That's the hard part.
[90:Ninwyn]: Since we don't have many active members, not many will attend, at least not most of the time.
[90:Jackflap]: Brb again, i apologize.
[90:Ninwyn]: No prob.
[90:Ninwyn]: We can try doing a semi-large or semi-important event once or every other week.
[90:Ninwyn]: To start out with.
[90:Ninwyn]: We can always make more if and when we get more members/more active memebers.
[60:Phink]: ^
[90:Ninwyn]: And we will probably not attend many multi-guild events for now either.
[90:Ninwyn]: But we'll get back into them later
[90:Ninwyn]: Maybe Genome + One other guild.
[90:Ninwyn]: But not the Genome + 5-10 other guilds.
[90:Ninwyn]: When we get settled in, we could try going in for a RP storyline type of event, that'd last a few weeks.
[90:Ninwyn]: But I want to concentrate on the little things first.
[90:Ninwyn]: You need a sturdy foundation to build a house on.
[90:Ninwyn]: Alright...
[90:Ninwyn]: Anyone have anything else to add for now? I'm starting to get a headache.
[60:Phink]: not much to add except my total support. your ideas are well thoguht through nin, and i think they will work if we get involved in them and give it some time.
END.
For those who missed the meeting, want to review it, and/or give your input/ideas/concerns, I'll be posting the notes of the meeting.

END.
